Vitamin D #

In its active form, calicitrol, it is a Steroid. Do not supplement calcitrol (which is rare) - you want cholecalciferol. The proper test is for 25(OH)vitamin D. The suffcient amount is that which lowers PTH, which is around 40-100ng/mL. Toxicity begins at 150.

Physiology #

  • After calcitrol binding, the Vitamin D Receptor heterodimerizes with RXR.

  • Thorne’s Liquid D3: $15 9.75? - 1200x500IU (600k) (61,538 iu/$)

    • Solvent: SFA esters + anhydrol (ethanol)
      • Due to this, Haidut says it most likely has much better absorption than oil-dissolved supplements, like thorne’s. It’s like 2.5x more expensive, but 50-60% absorption as opposed to ~10-20% is not unreasonabl. R
