Parathyroid Hormone

Parathyroid Hormone #

  • Secreted by the parthyroid glands.

  • Keep it under 15 pg/mL. Those with MPB tend to have levels in the higher range.

  • It is secreted when serum Calcium levels are low, removing it from the bones (via stimulating osteoclast activity), via producing Lactic Acid.

  • Increases secretion of Aldosterone, via increasing calcium concentration in the cells of the adrenal zona glomerulosa (the area of the adrenal gland in which aldosterone is produced). I believe the inverse is true as well R. Parathyroid hormone and aldosterone interfere with mitochondrial energy production.

  • Ray Peat - Milk in Context

    • When there is adequate calcium (obvious), vitamin D (from a diet perspective since Ca absorption), and magnesium in the diet, PTH is kept to a minimum.
