Mirtazapine #

Apparently not discussed too often in Lucid Dreaming communities but it ought to be. Also frequently used in bodybuilding. Blocks the effects of psychedelics.

  • 5-HT2B inverse agonist, 5-HT2A 5-HT2C, and 5-HT3 antagonist.

  • 5-HT1A agonist, and induced lower lip retraction in rats (characteristic of 5-HT1A - it’s kinda like smiling??) R

    • 5-HT1A agonism makes you eat carbs like a horse
  • Increases serotonergic cell-firing in the dorsal raphe and 5-HT release in the hippocampus Explained by noradrenergic enhancement of 5-HT cell-firing and blockade of noradrenaline-mediated inhibition of hippocampal 5-HT release.

  • κ-Opioid Receptor agonist.

  • Associated with a significant increase in body weight, body fat mass, and Leptin concentration RInsulin Resistance is associated with elevated plasma leptin levels independent of body fat mass.

    • Increases leptin ~2fold without desensitization.
  • The plasma levels of TNF-α and both soluble TNF receptors increased. R

  • 10mg/kg in rats (~111mg - absorption though? Perhaps poor oral) 1-2x/day for 14 days reduced by 50% the effect of stress on basal norepinephrine output. Acute administration of FG7142 (30 mg/kg, i.p.), an anxiogenic benzodiazepine receptor inverse agonist, induced a marked increase in norepinephrine output (+90%) in control rats. In rats chronically treated with imipramine or mirtazapine this effect was completely antagonized. R

  • 5-week treatment with mirtazapine (45 mg/day) showed significant increases in Allopregnanolone, 3alpha,5beta-tetrahydroprogesterone, 5α-DHP, and 5β-DHP, after mirtazapine treatment, whereas 3beta,5alpha-tetrahydroprogesterone levels were significantly decreased.

    • 3,beta,5,alpha lacks GABA-A binding and neuroprotection.
  • Acutely inhibits Cortisol secretion and Adrenocortocotropic Hormone release R

  • Slight antiHistamine, like most antipsychotics, and then psychedelics are usually histamine liberators. Rleated?

  • Antagonist of alpha 2 adrenoreceptors.

Supplementation #

7.5-15 mg sublinual before bed - more than that tends to be stimulatory.
