Leptin #

  • Inhibits hunger in order to regulate energy balance and diminish fat storage in Adipocytes. It is released when you are satiated.
  • Produced by adipose cells and Enterocytes in the small intestine.
  • Leptin receptor activates JAK2-STAT
  • One would improve leptin sensitivity basically the same way one would with insulin; basal levels are correlated with body fat.
    • What are low levels of leptin (taking into account resistance; I reckon it has good homeostasis, or at least compared to insulin) = starvation mode/fasting, where appetite is increased and metabolism is decreased.
  • It speeds up the metabolism, increases thyroid hormon through by doing this
  • Leptin increases during sleep. Sleep deprivation lowers leptin and increases ghrelin.
  • Promotes Temperature, metabolism, and Steroidogenesis
  • Increases Tyrosine Hydroxylase in the Nucleus Accumbens R
  • Intracerebroventricular administration stimulates mTORC1 in the Arcuate Nucleus and reduces food intake. R
  • Increases Striatum D2 binding R
