CREB

CREB (cAMP response element-binding protein) #
It’s a transcription factor. ‘cAMP response elements’ are located right on DNA in the nucleus.
-
For basically any activity, it is activated by phosphorylation (of its Ser133) via Protein Kinase A, and CAMK (II, IV at least), and MAPK.
- Notice something? That’s all 3 G-proteins promoting CREB… I think MAPK is downstream of AKT? Not sure though.
-
Regulates expression of:
- ΔFosB?
- BDNF
- Tyrosine Hydroxylase
- As a result, it is upregulated in addiction to dopaminergics. At least, in the VTA.
- Neuropeptides like Somatostatin, Enkephalin, VGF, Corticotrophin-releasing hormone
- PER.
- Dynorphin in the Nucleus Accumbens
- FMRP
- Egr1
- Circadian Rhythm/clock genes like PER1, PER2. Basically, you better hope the ligand is working in your favor, as ΔFosB and TH basically work in opposite directions for D1 feedback.
