Corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH/CRF) #

A peptide hormone involved in the stress response. It’s highly inflammatory. Not exactly related to cortisol.

Secreted by the Hypothalamus in response to stress (anything else??); Stimulates the Pituitary Gland to secrete Proopiomelanocortin.

  • Receptors are CRF1 and CRF2. They’re both Gs - or at least stimulate adenylyl cyclase - but they still have other MOAs like PKC.
  • Reinstates addiction habits after withdrawal via Dynorphins. CRFR1 has been shown to exist at higher levels in the female nucleus accumbens, olfactory tubercle, and rostral anteroventral periventricular nucleus (AVPV) when compared to males, while male voles show increased levels of CRFR2 in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis compared to females.
