Memory #
-
- (Working) memory basically consists of encoding, maintenance, and retrieval:
- ‘Pattern separation’ minimizes overlaps between the memories encoded in certain. This… pattern, is hypothesized to be executed by the dentate gyrus.
- Time feeling like it goes by faster and faster = proportionate to memory (novelty, and so on).

- [Memory suppressor genes: Modulating acquisition, consolidation, and forgetting]
- Almost 100 have been identified:
- GABAergic inhibition limits potency of learned stimuli for aquisition
- Rin1, GABRAα5, KCNIP3, WT1, JIP1-JNK, Tet2. Reducing their function limits behavioral flexibility.
- GABRAα5 KO produces a deficiency in Latent Inhibition of auditory fear conditioning.
- Inhibiting some memory suppressor genes, including NHe5,STEP, Sharp1&2, CDK5, HDAC2, and PKR, enhances both memory and behavioral flexibility as measured by reversal or extinction experiment
- Inhibiting Calcineurin, a memory suppressor, impairs fear memory extinction. I mean yeah, it’s important for LTD bro.
- Some memory suppressors suppress social behavior as well, giving insight into Autism and savant syndrome.
- Caspase 2 -> Rictor -> AKT -> GSK-3β -> GluR2 phosphorylation -> internalization.
- Prefrontal dopamine and the dynamic control of human long-term memory

Cdc42-Dependent Forgetting Regulates Repetition Effect in Prolonging Memory Retention
- ARM = anesthesia-resistant memory. Olfactory fear conditioning increases Cdc42. Repetition suppresses the activation of Cdc42-dependent forgetting. Inhibition of Cdc42 mimicked the repetition effect of consolidation.
- Implies actin dynamics: RNAi knockdown of Cdc42, WASP, ARP2/3 enhanced memory after acquisition:
- Almost 100 have been identified:
