Folate (B9) 250 #

A deficiency can cause paranoia and apparently mania.

Methylation #

  • THF is a methyl donor via SHMT, whereby it becomes 5,10-methylene THF.
    • NADPH is cofactor for the 2xDFHR at the begining.
    • PFCT = proton-coupled folate transporter: regulates intestinal absorption and its delivery into the CNS.

Folic Acid #

  • Simply the synthetic form of Folate; converts into it in the body.
  • Methylated version is the best< I believe, like supplementing L-5-MTHF directly.
  • But Masterjohn makes the case for unmethylated being better if you’re B12 deficient. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHrwIXJkz1k. Folic acid is also actually more stable and easily digestible. Supplementation may reduce Zinc absorption.
