Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT) #
-
Catalyzes methylation (to the amine) of:
- Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) to phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine (PMME)
- Then, PMME + SAM-e to phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine (PDME)
- Then, PDME to Phosphatidylcholine (PC). Each of these reactions requires SAM-e and yields H+ and S-Adenosyl-L-homocysteine (SAH).

Activity is increased by Estrogen RPF and other stresors. It is a way of pushing out PUFA phospholipids in the liver to the rest of the body, rather than having it deal with it via Glucuronidation etc
