In addition to these, it also produces other proteins and enzymes essential for survival (e.g., alpha-1 antitrypsin).
-
The liver is also responsible for the catabolism of endogenous toxicants,
-
For the storage of Glycogen, B12, Iron and Copper, and it mainly contributes to the function of the immune system (antibodies/immune cells are produced in the liver)
-
Stores:
- Vitamin A (50-70%) (Stored in hepatic Stellate Cells)
- Vitamin D (most is in adipose tissue tho - in hepatocytes)
- Vitamin E (~33%. In hepatocyte mitochondria)
- Vitamin K: (mostly in the liver. Depleted in days)
- Vitamin B12 (50%)
- Copper (33%. In complex with metallochaperone proteins)
- Iron (Ferritin, haemosiderin)

- Excess Lipolysis
- Dysfunctional cells
