Glycogen #

Its equivalent in plants is Starch. It’s just a big ass chain of glucose joined by glycosidic bonds in various directions.

  • The Liver stores ~100g but this can be boosted to 200+. Muscles is around 300, but can go over 700 if you’re muscular enough.

Glycogenolysis #

  • Via glycogen phosphorylase, it is broken down one at a time into units of glucose-1-phosphate, which is converted to Glucose 6-Phosphate via phosphoglucomutase. Finally, the phosphate group is removed via glucose-6-phosphatase, and free glucose exits into the bloodstream via GLUT2.
