Contains a substantial proportion of the Serotonin innervation to the forebrain, and is particularly rich in 5-HT1A.

Contains endogenous Opioid Receptors - electrical stimulation can potentially alleviate morphine withdrawal. R
Has neuroanatomic differences (along with the median RN) in those with Depression - may be decreased in size. But an increased cell density in suicide victims.
