Acid Sphingomyelinase
2022-08-07: lon reference:
Acid Sphingomyelinase (Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase 1 (SMPD1)) #
Lysosomal enzyme that breaks down Sphingomyelin -> Ceramide and phosphorlycholine.
- Many SSRIs and similar sounding chemicals I’ve never heard of before, along with Melatonin, Cyproheptadine, are FIASMAs (functional inhibitors of Acid Sphingomyelinase).
- This is likely related to their neurosteroid activity.
- Melatonin Acts as an Antidepressant by Inhibition of the Acid Sphingomyelinase/Ceramide System
