Hypothyroidism #

  • We went from diagnosing 30-40% of Americans as hypothyroid in the ‘40s to only 1-5% now because of an inaccurate test. We also went from prescribing T3:T4 in a 1:4 ratio to prescribing isolated synthetic T4. https://twitter.com/Rizzenhouse/status/1749868568374804790

  • Hypothyroidism is a slowed conduction along nerves; slow recovery+readiness for new response. This leads to slow reaction time and its related mental deifcits (slowed memory, perception, etc.)

  • Plasma noradrenaline and blood pressure in hypothyroid patients: effect of gradual thyroxine treatment

  • Symptoms include:

    • Chronic fatigue
    • Weight gain
      • One can have a fast metabolism while hypothyroid - when calories are wasted by heat, rather than producting CO2/ATP.
    • Consitpation
    • Cold sensitivity
    • Depression
    • Reduced endurance
    • Ireggular/heavy menses
    • Accumulation of mucopolysaccharides - combinations of proteins and sugars deposited in extracellular space. These can accumulate in the scalp in those with MPB and act as a matrix for calcification.
    • Poor Glycogen storage
  • While symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

    • Muscle weakness
    • Tremors
    • Increased sweating
    • Heart palpitations
    • Weight loss
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Heat sensitivity

Hashimoto’s #

Excessive Estrogen can lead to Hashimoto’s (Thyroid nodules are more common in women and increases with advancing age) via increasing the anti-TOP antibodies, like autoantigen thyroid peroxidase. R Autoimmune disease resulting in gradual destruction of the thyroid gland; naturally resulting in Hypothyroidism. Grave’s disease leads to a hyperactivity of the thyroid gland.
