Pancreas #
An organ of the digestive system and Endocrine System. It regulates blood sugar, secreting Insulin, Glucagon, Somatostatin, etc.
Pancreatic insufficiency can be more pronounced in people with blood type A. Inflamed pancreas causes more water loss. Drink warm fluids. To keep the pancreas in check:
-
Reduce calcium and histamine toxicity
-
Do not combine animal protein and starches?
-
The islets contain its endocrine cells and it consists of:
- Alpha cells: produce Glucagon
- They detect Hypoglycemia through a variety of mechanisms; paracrine stuff, and neuronal control.
- Beta Cells producing insulin and amylin
- Delta cells (found elsewhere; in the digestive system) produce Somatostatin
- Epsilon cells: produce Ghrelin. In rodents, the core is mostly beta cells and other types the outer periphery, while human islets have alpha and beta cells in close relationship throughout.
- Alpha cells: produce Glucagon
Islet transplantation #
You can implant pancreatic islets into the subarachinoid space.
-
Intracranial pancreatic islet transplantation increases islet hormone expression in the rat brain and attenuates behavioral dysfunctions induced by MK-801 (dizocilpine)
- Dizocilpine is an NMDAR non-competitive antagonist.
- Intracranial Transplantation of Pancreatic Islets Attenuates Cognitive and Peripheral Metabolic Dysfunctions in a Rat Model of Sporadic Alzheimer’s Disease
- Anti-diabetic and neuroprotective effects of pancreatic islet transplantation into the central nervous system
- Long-term effects of intracranial islet grafting on cognitive functioning in a rat metabolic model of sporadic Alzheimer’s disease-like dementia
