Olive Leaf (Extract) #
- Active ingredient is oleanolic acid, a TGR5 agonist, and oleuropein.
- Promotes Orexin. Activates PPAR-α. I think it’s a GLP-1 agonist?
- Effect of freeze dried extract of Olea europaea on the pituitary-thyroid axis in rats
- Oleuropein supplementation increases urinary noradrenaline and testicular testosterone levels and decreases plasma corticosterone level in rats fed high-protein diet
- Oleuropein, a phenolic compound in extra virgin olive oil, increases uncoupling protein 1 content in brown adipose tissue and enhances noradrenaline and adrenaline secretions in rats
-
Olive leaf extract prevents obesity, cognitive decline, and depression and improves exercise capacity in mice (In physically inactive mice fed a high-fat diet)
- Oleanolic acid: TGR5 agonist.
- Oleuropein: an antioxidant.
-
The metabolic and vascular protective effects of olive (Olea europaea L.) leaf extract in diet-induced obesity in mice are related to the amelioration of gut microbiota dysbiosis and to its immunomodulatory properties
- Ameliorates HFD-induced alterations in PPAR, adiponectin/leptin receptors in adipose, reducing TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 in liver/adipose.
- Olive Leaf Extracts Are a Natural Source of Advanced Glycation End Product Inhibitors
-
Oleuropein improves insulin resistance in skeletal muscle by promoting the translocation of GLUT4
- Translocation of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) into the cell membrane was promoted by activation of AMPK (I think that might be the cause) https://www.ergo-log.com/muscle-oleuropein-insulin.html
- Oleocanthal:
- Inhibits COX.
- ERα antagonist/degraader. https://www.ergo-log.com/oleocanthal-anti-oestrogen-in-olive-oil.html
- Hydroxytyrosol
- Strongly antimicrobial.
- Gave brenden.henry a herxheimer-like reaction.
- Lowers blood pressure.
- Hypoglycemic
- Brendan.Henry: I’ve tried olive leaf extract. The rat studies look good-It boosts T in rats and improves erection quality, but in humans it actually decreases T and does the opposite. I do not think its due to increased conversion to DHT because no one reports hair loss and a lot even report hair growth, so I don’t know by what mechanism its lowering T in humans. One of its constituents, oleuropein, boosts T in humans but overall olive leaf decreases it
- *There is a bit of controversy surrounding olive leaf. Oleuropein was shown in rat studies to increase testosterone by about 250% and half cortisol. Olive leaf extract which usually contains about 40% oleuropein was shown to decrease testosterone in rats. Very odd. There are no human studies I have seen to confirm the effects of oleuropein or olive leaf extract on human testosterone levels. However there are human studies regarding Olive oil and it was shown to boost testosterone by 17% and LH by 42%. However the oil is made from the fruit and does not contain nearly as much oleuropein as the extracts or leaf(but still contains some). So I am not 100% sure on this but am trying oleuropein by itself vs olive leaf by itself to see if I notice differences. *
Dosing #
- Get fresh, whole-leaf extract, not dried. I believe many people put it in tea.
- Lozko and Clash (uses it daily) are fans.
- I use it on and off with other herbs. It’s definitely pro-hyroid, reduces fat mass, improves libido, dopaminergic and Orexin-activating. Nitric oxide promoting; great for pumps taken maybe 2 hours before gym.
