IGF-1 #
Hormone consisting of 70 amino acids. Produced in the Liver after being signalled by Growth Hormone.
- Anabolic; important for growth spurts. Some mainstream dogmas believe it is bad. Stimulates 5-AR
- Supports hyperplasia, lowers body fat, tightens up skin, aids in repair of bones/tendons/ligaments.
- When fasting, lowered 43%->76%->72% 24 hours each. GH increases though.
- Increases AMPAR EPSP and NMDAR trafficking.
-
Optimizing IGF-I for skeletal muscle therapeutics
- Strength training and β-Carotene can promote lower systemic levels of IGF-1, while stil allowing for local production of IGF-1 for Muscle building.
-
Association of Insulin-like Growth Factor I and Insulin-like Growth Factor–Binding Protein-3 With Intelligence Quotient Among 8- to 9-Year-Old Children in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children
- Mean age 8. Saw an IQ increase of 3.18 for every 100ng/mL increase in serum IGF-1, and controlling for IGFBP-3 levels changed this to 2.51.
- IGFBP-3 cleaves it from pro-IGF.
- Forms a hybrid receptor with the Insulin Receptor, whose expression is associated with high peripheral IGF-1 levels.

- In healthy individuals, serum levels of IGF-1 peak at puberty (mean level: 391 ng/ml, between the ages of 14–15 years)
