Endocannabinoids #
Lipid-soluble. The obvious example for a ligand is THC.
- They diffuse freely from postsynaptic neurons to their GPCR receptors on presynaptic neurons - a retrograde messenger, which inhibits release of neurotransmitters.
- Elevated tissue CB1 and circulating endocannabinoids (ECs) derived from the n-6 polyunsaturated acid (PUFA) arachidonic acid occur in obese and diabetic patients. DHA can reduce ECS overactivation. R
