Ferritin #
- Cages up to 4,500 ferric iron atoms and is up to 480 kDa.
- Iron is removed via reduction from ferric to ferrous.
- Has a ferroxidase center as well. FHC, FLC, and mitochondrial ferritin alike.
- Has a ferroxidase center as well. FHC, FLC, and mitochondrial ferritin alike.
- FHC/FLC mRNA contain IRE.
- Low iron facilitates IRP1/2 mRNA binding to IRE, ferritin, and ferroportin (downregulates expression) while high iron facilitates IRP2 degredation and IRP1 conversion to Aconitase, when bound to an iron-sulfur cluster.
