Enzymes #
(I think when it comes to enzymes and similar structures, I probably won’t link ’enzymes’ for enzymes that are part of families or superfamilies that have already been linked to it; ie MAO and MAO-B and MAO-A. Not sure though. Some of that stuff is just cosmetic.)
- Obviously there are thousands but the subdivisions are something like this:
- Oxidoreductases
- Dehydrogenases
- Transferases
- Phosphotransferases
- Kinases
- Protein kinases
- Kinases
- Methyltransferases
- Phosphotransferases
- Hydrolases
- Phosphatases
- Proteases:
- Peptidases: cleaves signal proteins from N-termini
- Phospholipases
- Named after the ester bonds they break in the phospholipid.
- Lyases
- Breaks various bonds not via hydrolysis.
- Decarboxylases
- Cyclases
- Isomerases: structurally rearrange molecules
- Ligases
- Join two large molecules with a new bond, like C-C/O/S/N.
- Oxidoreductases
