Enzymes #

(I think when it comes to enzymes and similar structures, I probably won’t link ’enzymes’ for enzymes that are part of families or superfamilies that have already been linked to it; ie MAO and MAO-B and MAO-A. Not sure though. Some of that stuff is just cosmetic.)

  • Obviously there are thousands but the subdivisions are something like this:
    • Oxidoreductases
      • Dehydrogenases
    • Transferases
    • Hydrolases
      • Phosphatases
      • Proteases: 270
      • Peptidases: cleaves signal proteins from N-termini
      • Phospholipases
        • Named after the ester bonds they break in the phospholipid.
    • Lyases
      • Breaks various bonds not via hydrolysis.
      • Decarboxylases
      • Cyclases
    • Isomerases: structurally rearrange molecules
    • Ligases
      • Join two large molecules with a new bond, like C-C/O/S/N.
