Casein #
-
There is A1 β-casein, (which releases β-casomorphin-7) and A2 β-casein, which has ~90% less opiate potential than A1.
-
β-casomorphin-7 triggers an opiate release and inflammation.
- A lower opiate tone will facilitate increased sex hormones, and lowered prolactin and serotonin.

- In homogenized milk, casein/whey adsorb (not typo) onto the surface of fat globules, reducing the amount of MFGM at the surface. Denatured whey proteins attach to the adsorbed casein and MFGM proteins via disulfide bonds.
- Peat has said this isn’t a problem since the globules are emulsified in bile the same way regardless
- Casein delays gastrointestinal transit time compared to whey protein,
- Maloxone as antidote to opioid?

- At the 67th amino acid, A1 has histidine, while A2 has proline.
- The tyrosine proline at the start of BCM7 gives it its μ-Opioid Receptor receptor binding properties.
- It is hypothesized that the activation of μ-Opioid Receptor in the gut can alter the gut microbial composition, impair barrier integrity and bile acid metabolism, increasing GI transit time and gut inflammation.
- A1 can upregulate TLR2 and TLR4 mRNA. Acts as a 5-HT2 antagonist in vitro.
- Any inflammation can make the BBB leaky, allowing toxins from the gut etc. to enter the brain and give brain fog.
- Potential probiotics are bifidobacterium longum, infantis, breve and bifidum.
