Phenyl Salicylate

Synthesized by heating Salicylic Acid with phenol in the presence of phosphoryl chloride.
- The phenol is at least as potent as the salicylic acid, if not more.
Salicylic acid and aspirin have difficulties reaching past the small intestine. Phenyl salicylate can reach all the way to the colon as it is hydrolyzed in the small intestine, therefore it does not disturb digestion, since it passes through the stomach unaltered.
Phenol and salicylic acid are secreted in the kidneys.

- “Salol acts best in morbid conditions, due to fermentation and decomposition in the stomach and upper bowel, and that it diminishes in power as it passess through the large intestine.”
- Camphosal can be used as a mo uthwash by keeping it in the mouth for like 30 seconds.
- Sour… tastes like bandaids (lol). Taking it with other liquids shouldn’t cause problems or change anything.
- Constipated a few people. Cleared somebody’s white tongue after 3 whole weeks.

“In the acute condition [of gastroenteritis], it is necessary to keep the stomach at rest and administer two or three doses of salol within 5 or 6 hours. For the more chronic state of catarrh it is best given in somewhat larger doses before meals.”
