Brodmann Areas #
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodmann_area#Clickable_map:_lateral_surface
These are all areas of the neocortex, with the distinction being some combination of thickness and layers the areas possess.
(Strikethrough = only non-human primates)
- BA3, BA1 and BA2 – Primary somatosensory cortex in the postcentral gyrus (frequently referred to as Areas 3, 1, 2 by convention)
- BA4– Primary Motor Cortex
- BA5 – Superior parietal lobule
- BA6 – Premotor cortex and Supplementary Motor Cortex (Secondary Motor Cortex) (Supplementary motor area)
- BA7 – Visuo-Motor Coordination
- BA8 – Includes Frontal eye fields
- BA9 – Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex
- BA10 – Frontopolar Prefrontal Cortex (most rostral part of superior and middle frontal gyri). Rodents don’t even have one.
- BA11 – Orbitofrontal area (orbital and rectus gyri, plus part of the rostral part of the superior frontal gyrus)
- BA12 – Orbitofrontal area (used to be part of BA11, refers to the area between the superior frontal gyrus and the inferior rostral sulcus)
- BA13 and
BA14– Insular cortex BA15– Anterior Temporal lobe- BA16 – Insular Cortex
- BA17 – Primary Visual Cortex (V1) (Striate Cortex)
- BA18 – Secondary visual cortex (V2)
- BA19 – Associative visual cortex (V3, V4, V5)
- BA20 – Inferior temporal gyrus
- BA21 – Middle temporal gyrus
- BA22 – Part of the superior temporal gyrus, included in Wernicke’s area
- BA23 – Ventral posterior cingulate cortex
- BA24 – Ventral anterior cingulate cortex.
- BA25 – Subgenual area (part of the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex)
- “Subgenual” is specific to this; not a general adjective I don’t think.
- BA26 – Ectosplenial portion of the retrosplenial region of the cerebral cortex
- BA27 – Presubiculum
- BA28 – Ventral entorhinal cortex
- BA29 – Retrosplenial cortex
- BA30 – Subdivision of retrosplenial cortex
- BA31 – Dorsal Posterior cingulate cortex
- BA32 – Dorsal Anterior Cingulate Cortex
- BA33 – In the Anterior Cingulate Cortex
- BA34 – Dorsal entorhinal cortex (on the Parahippocampal gyrus)
- BA35 and BA36 – Parts comprising the Perirhinal Cortex
- BA37 – Fusiform gyrus
- BA38 – Temporopolar area (most rostral part of the superior and middle temporal gyri)
- BA39 – Angular gyrus, considered by some to be part of Wernicke’s area
- BA40 – Supramarginal gyrus considered by some to be part of Wernicke’s area
- BA41 and BA42 – Auditory cortex
- BA43 – Primary gustatory cortex
- BA44 BA45 – Broca’s Area, includes the opercular part and triangular part of the inferior frontal gyrus
- BA46 – Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex
- BA47 – Orbital part of inferior frontal gyrus
- BA48 – Retrosubicular area (a small part of the medial surface of the temporal lobe)
- BA49 – Parasubicular area in a rodent
- BA52 – Parainsular area (at the junction of the temporal lobe and the insula)
