Allosteric Regulation #

• Allosteric modulators function by binding to receptors and changing their response to stimulus. Those of the positive variety can do the following:
  • Increases the probability that an agonist will bind to a receptor (affinity)
  • Increasing the agonist’s ability to activate the receptor (efficacy)
  • Or both.
• Facilitates receptor activation by binding to a receptor subunit distant from the agonist binding site.
